What is Neuromuscular Massage?

Neuromuscular Therapy  is a very specialized form of manual massage therapy. By definition, Neuromuscular Therapy is the utilization of static pressure on specific myofascial points to relieve pain. A neuromuscular therapist is educated in physiology of the nervous system and how it effects the muscular and skeletal systems.

Furthermore, Neuromuscular Massage is a technique where a massage therapist manipulates the soft tissue of the body to balance the central nervous system. The soft tissues include muscles, tendons and connective tissue. In well-rounded and healthy individual, nerves transmit impulses to the body very slowly. In turn, these nervous impulses are responsible for every movement, function and thought that take place in our body. Nonetheless, stress, trauma, injury or postural distortion can cause nerves to speed up these nervous impulses (or transmissions) which inhibit equilibrium and make the individual vulnerable to pain and dysfunction. A neuromuscular therapist strives to stabilize low levels of neurological activity to maintain homeostasis, normal function and overall health of the individual.
